<p><span>1977</span>년 개인용 컴퓨터 애플<span>2</span>의 등장</p> <p><span> </span></p> <p>이런 역사의 흐름을 보면 컴퓨터의 발전에 앞서 프로세서와 소재의 발전이 먼저 있어야한다는 것을 알 수 있어요. <span>'</span>진공관이라는 프로세서'가 만들 수 있는 컴퓨터와 '트랜지스터라는 프로세서가 만들 수 있는 컴퓨터'는 성능의 차이가 엄청났습니다<span>. </span>하지만 트랜지스터가 등장하고 <span>10</span>년이나 이 시장을 지배했던 <span>BJT </span>방식이 <span>CMOS의 등장으로 그 주도권을 내줬던 것처럼 </span>선구적인 기술이라고 생각했던 것이 언제든 다른 기술에 자리를 내어줄 수도 있어요<span>. </span></p> <p><span> </span></p> <p><span>1959</span>년 나온<span> CMOS </span>트랜지스터의 아이디어가 산업적으로 자리잡는데는 데는<span> 10</span>년이 걸렸어요. 하지만 이 기술이 진짜 큰 가치를 만들어내고, 사람들의 삶을 전부 바꿔놓은 것은 <span>1977</span>년 개인용 컴퓨터의 등장 이후 입니다. 훌륭한 소재와 프로세서가 만들어졌다고 해도<span>, </span>이를 통해서 만들어진 컴퓨터<span>(=</span>제품<span>)가</span> 소비자의 수요를 만나야만 세상이 본격적으로 변한다는 의미에요<span>.</span></p> 우리는 외부 게이트를 통제하기 위해 열심히 노력했습니다<span>. </span>그때부터 반도체 산업은 <span>30</span>년간<span> 99%</span>에서<span> 99.9%</span>의 수준으로 발전해 왔습니다<span>. </span>양자 컴퓨팅의 도전 과제도 비슷하다고 생각합니다<span>. </span>적어도 초전도체 방식 양자컴퓨팅에서는 그렇습니다<span>. </span>다만<span> 99%</span>까지 도달하는데<span> 30</span>년이 걸리지 않기를 바랄뿐입니다<span>. </span>저는 앞으로 양자컴퓨팅에서 <span>5</span>년 안에<span> 99%</span>에 도달할 것이라고 생각합니다<span>. </span></p> <p><span> </span></p> <p>😽 : 양자컴퓨팅은 반도체와 공정 측면에서 어떤 점이 다른가요<span>?</span></p> <p>😁 : 반도체에서 실리콘 산화물을 다루는 대신 우리는 알루미늄 산화물을 다룹니다<span>. </span>하지만<span> CMOS</span>에서 게이트 산화물을 제어하는 방법은, 현재 양자 컴퓨팅에서 알루미늄 산화물을 제어하는 데 필요한 방법과 매우 유사합니다<span>. </span>두께<span>, </span>결정 구조<span>, </span>경계 결함 등을 정밀하게 제어하는 작업이 양자 컴퓨팅에서도 이뤄집니다. 반도체 산업은 그동안 트랜지스터를 엄청나게 작게<span>, </span>더 빠르게 만들었습니다<span>. </span><span>3</span>차원구조도 도입했죠<span>. 그 사이에 </span>트랜지스터에 적용되는 물리학은 크게 달라지지 않았습니다<span>. </span>양자 컴퓨팅은 반도체와는 다른 물리학이 적용됩니다<span>. </span>하지만 양자 컴퓨팅에서도 결국 반도체와 비슷한 개발 곡선(정체되었다가 개발이 빨라지는 구간)이 나타날 것으로 기대합니다<span>.</span></p> <p><br></p> <p>😺 : 리게티는 반도체 산업에서처럼 칩렛<span>(</span>여러가지 칩을 하나로 만드는 것<span>)</span>을 만들고 계시다고 들었는데요<span>.</span></p> <p>🤓 : 우리 회사가 달성한 <span>84 </span>큐비트는 하나의 단일칩<span>(Monolithic Chip)</span>에서 만든 것입니다. 그래서 올해의 목표는 칩렛 아키텍처를 보여주는 것입니다<span>. </span>하지만 칩렛에서 큐비트를 달성하려면 매우 어렵습니다<span>. </span>그럼에도 불구하고 칩렛 구조를 하려는 것은<span> CMOS</span>에서 칩렛을 사용하는 것과 같은 이유입니다<span>. GPU는 CPU를 보조하는 역할을 했어요. 게임 속 그래픽 처리를 위해 GPU가 쓰였던 것 처럼요. 그런데 병렬연산이 매우 많이 필요한 딥러닝이라는 AI가 등장하면서 GPU가 CPU보다 중요해졌어요. 그렇다고 CPU가 사라졌나요? CPU는 GPU와 함께 작동하면서 여전히 중요한 역할을 하고 있습니다. 이런 방식의 컴퓨팅을 이기종컴퓨팅(heterogeneous computing)이라고 부르는데요. 양자프로세서(QPU)가 등장한다면 CPU/GPU와 함께 이기종컴퓨팅의 일부로 들어가게될 것이에요. CPU/GPU가 연산하는 것보다 QPU가 연산하는 것이 빠를 때 QPU를 사용하는 거죠. </p> <p><br></p> <p>네번째, <span style="font-weight: bold;" class="stb-bold">CPU/GPU와 함께 작동하게될 QPU는 데이터센터에 탑재될 가능성이 제일 높아요. 그리고 클라우드컴퓨팅 형태로 사용자들에게 서비스될 것으로 보입니다. </span>우리가 사용하는 PC와 스마트폰에 CPU와 GPU가 탑재되어있지만, 사실 중요한 데이터 처리는 데이터센터에서 이뤄져서 클라우드를 통해서 저희에게 도달하는데요. 양자컴퓨팅도 마찬가지가 될 것 같아요. 모든 처리는 데이터센터내의 QPU에서 이뤄지고 우리는 결과물만 받게되는 거죠. 양자 프로세서가 아무리 발달한다해도 스마트폰같은 개인용 전자기기에 들어갈 가능성은 매우 낮겠죠? 하지만 일반 소비자들도 양자컴퓨팅의 혜택은 받을 수 있을 겁니다. </p> <p><br></p> <p>이런 점에서 지금 나오고 있는 양자컴퓨터들의 기술 발전이 컴퓨터 역사의 어느단계에 와 있는지를 알 수 있다면, 우리는 양자컴퓨터가 상용화되는데 필요한 시간을 예측해볼 수 있어요. <span></span></p> <p><br></p> <p><span>지금의 양자프로세서가 1907년에 등장한 진공관 정도 수준일까요? 그렇다면 상용화까지 70년이 남았습니다.</span></p> <p><br></p> <p><span>1958년 등장한 트랜지스터 수준일까요? 그렇다면 20년 정도 남았다고 볼 수 있죠.</span></p>
