CES 현장에서 본 제품들도 그렇고요. 특히 저는 여가 제품에 여러 기술이 접목된 것을 보고, 또 그것이 판매되는 것을 보면서 ‘기술이 우리 삶으로 많이 들어왔구나’라는 생각이 들었어요. </div> <div><br>어떠한 기술이 ‘여가산업’까지 손을 뻗쳤다는 것은 기술이 무르익었다는 뜻이라 생각하거든요. 기술이 비싸고, 다루기 어렵다면 굳이 여가 산업의 제품으로 갈 필요가 없습니다. 기술이 들어가지 않은 현재 제품도 여가를 즐기는 사람들은 사서 쓰니까요. 여가 제품은 매년 업데이트되어야만 하는 스마트폰과 비교했을 때 더 오랜 기간 쓰기 때문입니다. 오늘 행사장을 돌면서 본 몇 가지 기술이 들어간 여가 제품을 나열해 볼게요. </div> <div><br>‘모토서프(Motosurf)’라는 기업의 엔진이 장착된 AI의 활용 확대는 막대한 계산량을 처리할 수 있는 양자컴퓨팅 기술 발전으로 자연스럽게 이어질 수밖에 없는데, 그래서인지 이번 전시장에서는 양자 기술들이 눈에 띄었다. 또한 올해 CES에서는 기술 그 자체를 넘어 인류의 지속가능성과 삶의 질 향상을 위한 도구로서의 기술의 역할에 주목한 듯 보였다. 이 맥락에서 주목한 개념이 ‘인간 안보(Human Security)’인데, 이번 CES에서 인간 안보가 CES 혁신상 평가 항목에 새롭게 추가되면서 의미가 강조됐다. </div> <div><br>Q. 어떤 측면에서 인간 안보가 가장 인상 깊었나<br>A. ‘인간 안보’란 식량, 의료, 환경, 안전 등 인간의 기본적 권리를 보장하는 기술을 의미한다. 첨단 기술은 인류가 직면한 문제를 해결하기 위해 활용되어야 하며, CES는 이제 기술의 혁신성을 넘어 인간과 환경에 어떤 가치를 제공할 수 있는지를 탐구하는 장이 되어야 한다는 의미다. AI 기술 그 자체를 강조하기보다는 우리의 삶과 사회에 들어가 어떤 변화를 끌어낼 수 있는지, 어떤 문제를 해결할 수 있는지에 대한 구체적 사례들을 제시하는 것이다. </div> <div><br>Q.CES에 오랜 기간 참석하셨는데, 과거 CES와 최근 CES는 어떻게 다르다고 생각하는가<br>A. CES는 2003년 처음 참석해 최근 10년은 거의 매년 방문했던 것 같다. 가만히 돌이켜 보면 2022년 전까지 인공지능(AI)은 자율주행, 5G, 로봇, 드론, AR/VR 등과 함께 병렬적으로 거론되는 여러 중요 기술 중 하나에 가까웠다. 2022년 11월 챗GPT 등장으로 생성형AI 기술이 주목받기 시작하며 AI는 메가트렌드로 부상했고, 올해부터는 트렌드를 넘어 전 산업분야를 관통하는 핵심기술로 평가되고 있다. 필연적으로 도래하게 될 고도의 초연결 사회에서는 방대한 양의 데이터가 생성되고, 이를 처리하는 기술의 발전을 통해 우리는 일상과 산업 전반에서 최상의 효율성과 편의성, 그리고 개인화된 서비스를 경험하게 될 것이다. </div> <div><br></div> <div>Q. AI, 로봇 등 첨단 기술의 일상생활 활용이 많아지고 있다. ‘AI 폭발’이라는 말처럼, 일상생활 많은 곳에 AI가 스며들고 있는데, 어떻게 준비해야 할까. <br>A. 인간을 보조하는 기계 정도로 여겨졌던 AI가 우리 일상 전반에서 함께하는 기술이 되었다. 인간은 편리한 삶을 영위하게 되고, 생산성의 증대로 산업 발전은 가속화될 것이다. AI 혁신이 가져다 줄 긍정적 변화만큼 면밀히 살펴봐야 할 부분은 그 이면에 있는 기술의 부작용과 역작용일 것이다. 먼저, 생성형 AI를 마치 만능 해결책으로 여기는 섣부른 과대평가에 대한 경계가 필요하다. 생성형AI는 간단한 단일 작업을 수행하는 협소인공지능(ANI)의 하나다. AI 기술의 편향성, 데이터 유출로 인한 사생활 침해, 검증되지 않은 정보로 인한 기술의 신뢰성 상실 등에 대한 규제와 가이드라인이 필요한 것이 사실이다. 한 편으로 과도한 규제로 혁신과 산업 성장을 저해하지 않도록 해야한다. 어려운 일이 남아있다. </div> <div><br></div> <div>Q.연구소는 어떤 준비를 하고 있나<br>A.연구자와 연구기관도 글로벌 AI 기술 패권 경쟁에 대응하기 위해서는 전략적인 접근이 필요하다. KIST는 해외 연구기관과의 공동연구를 강화하고 국내 기술벤처가 해외 시장에 진출할 수 있도록 지원하기 위해 미국 보스턴에 협력거점 K-BB(Korea-Boston Bridge) 센터 설립을 추진 중이다. KIST 패밀리 기업과 벤처가 보스턴을 통해 세계 시장으로 나아갈 수 있도록 맞춤형 지원을 제공할 예정이다. 미래세대 유·청소년의 AI 시대 대비 방안도 마련해야 한다. </div> <div><br></div> <div>Q.기술 개발 속도가 상당히 빠르다<br>A.
